Well, this is not my first construction project by far but still learning.

My name is Chris and I work on just about every type of motorcycle possible. I run a used bike/parts business (ok salvage yard..lol) and decided my 24X24 attached just was not cutting it anymore. I decided to build another 24X24 a couple months ago and just put in a rock drive next to the tree line going down the west side of my existing garage/house.

The only before pictures i could find. Sorry I was not a member of this place when I started building and never thought about taking any pictures.

The area where new garge is going up. I had a 12X16 shed and about 15 motorcycles parked there. The shed is now on the other side of yard and all of the bikes are located behind new garage with a gate and road packed ground covering. It is nice having all of them stored out of sight and in a neat row...lol

2 months later here is where I am at. Things grew and changed as I went and so did my expenses.

P6140126.JPG

I ended up with a 26X30 and concrete driveway about 130’ foot long. Removed all 8 trees on the tree line and put up a white vinyl privacy fence.

I also decided to do some different things with this garage and kind of make it my second home. I mounted some speakers in the ceiling. I ran ¾” pipe for air throughout with drops on all walls because I use many air tools all the time. The walls are just USB but I have drywall in front garage and don’t care much for it. I painted the walls a “Gatepost grey” and then after finding this place decided to paint some stripes on the walls and epoxy the floor.

Here are some pictures of the walls as of now. Still have a couple minor spots to touch up with the grey. Put wall outlets and switches in. Trim out speakers, windows and man door.

P6140124.JPG

P6140125.JPG

Hoping to have all of this done this week and will be putting down the epoxy this weekend. I bought my epoxy through originalcolorchips.com and went with the solvent based products. ***NOTE*** If you are buying through this place do not buy online. Call them and speak with a representative. He saved me about 200.00 off the web prices! The floor will be a grey basecoat with a custom Harley mix of chips (black, bright orange, white and silver metallic). There will also be a 6’ wide HD logo in the middle of the bay area in the epoxy.

Will take lost more pictures as I go and post them up.

Looking good! Is that old Yamahoppy a 2 stroke? I've got a 74 TS-185 Suzuki that I'm saving till gas gets about $6 a gallon. I've found an expansion chamber for it, and plan on putting it on to aggravate the hippies and tree huggers when I start riding the bike to work! :)

Your second home is looking good. Love the old bikes too, takes me back. Oh and JDmopar back in the day the hippies were more into smoking the environment then saving it. :spit: Don't ask me how I know. :pimpflash

Thanks for the comps guys... I am excited and anxious about getting moved in.

Good eye on the bikes. That is actually just a small portion of what I own...lol Yes the Yamaha is a 2-stroke but it is gone already. I think I might have another one out back somewhere.

Brunsi, you do see a Seca 750 in there. I think it is still out there and I have another one coming in next week for some repairs.

I also forgot to add that I picked this thing up for $70.00. My uncle works for Justrite which is located about 10 minutes from me. Anytime they get a small dent or scuff on these cabinets they cannot retail them. This one is a 45 gallon with self closing doors and ground. Very nice and sturday cabinet at 31 lbs...

Thanks cyclops!

I got all of the wiring on the inside finished up today. I am planning on hooking up the main poweer to the existing house in the morning and then I have to hang a few more pieces of facia wrap and start trimming out the windows and doors on the inside. Will post some more pictures when I get that far.

Great shop!

If your uncle ever runs across another of those cabinets, give me a shout. You could make quite a good buck selling those things on this forum!

Actually he can get them all day long every day at his work. They normally have several stacked up waiting to go. The sad part is if you get caught selling them for profit you can get into some sh**. I am not sure why but I am guessing it is because the company does this for the employees and it is just looked bad upon. If they stopped I am sure there would be some very upset employees.

I could not imagine shipping on them though. This one is a 45 gallon and weighs about 300 lbs. They make up to a 110 gallon but he said he doe snot see too many of those. Mostly 45 gallon and 30 gallon...

Next time I talk to him I will discuss and see what he says...

WOW!

It has been a busy weekend. As I mentioned earlier I had sealant put down on my floor when the concrete was poured. It was an acyrlic sealer and I was told by someone that it was one of the easier ones to take off.

I rented an Edco floor grinder for 4 hours thinking I could have all 780 square feet done in just a few hours. Wellllll.... 4 hours later I had to call and rent it for the whole 24 hours. It took me a total of 8 hours of solid grinding with the diamond cutters to get through the sealant and grind the top layor of concrete. I then went around all of the edges with an angle grinder and 40 grit flap disc.

I ran into the problem of overspray latex paint on the floor and curb around the edges. The flap disc was not doing a good job so I had to break out the power washer. It made short work of the paint but then had to wash the walls down and squeegee the floor good.

Now, I had a really nice and clean floor but the control cuts that were there looked horrible. The guy done a pretty ****** job of cutting them so I had decided to buy some stuff for them called "Siliflex". This **** ***** to work with! It was just soaking right down into the cuts and it appeared I never done anything...lol I ended up using regular old DAP concrete morter repair/sealer. I called Original Color Chips and they said it should be fine to use it. (I also let them know I did not like there stuff and it would take me 20 tubes to do my garage). Worked good!

Me and the wife got the basecoat and chips down today. I put the chips on kind of heavy thinking that I will lose some when I sweep it up before basecoat.

Tomorrow evening I will put down a large decal and then Tuesday I will clear over decal and hopefully Wednesday clear coat.

Few pictures and sorry the wife would not let me get a good picture of her helping in her bikini top...lol

Well, we got the basecoat and chips down yesterday morning. I waited till today to walk on it and everything looks great.

I also put the new decal down this morning and sprayed some clear acryrlic paint down on it. We will be putting the top clear coat on tomorrow evening hopefully.

I hope to have the rest of interior trim on within next few days and start moving in over the weekend. Cabinets should be here Thursday for pickup...

All opinions and feedback welcome!

cyclops,
I realize that welding on the epoxy may not be the smart choice. I have incested in a couple large welding blankets to throw down whenever welding or grinding.

UPDATE:

Clear coat is on and cabinets are in. I got all of the cabinets put together today. I will gopefully get the bases all level in the morning and put workbench top on. Once I get that done and get the trim at least around the windows I will post some pictures up. I went with the UltiMate cabinets from Sears and they seem very sturdy and look great. The dwonfall is you must assemble! I had 9 cabinets to assemble and it took me approximately 6.5 hours to get them all together and everything in place...lol

Trim is all painted just have to get it up and trash cleaned out from cabinet boxes before I can get any pictures...

WHEW!

Painting these shelves has turned into quite a bit of work..lol

Anyhow, i wanted to wait till I got further before posting pictures but it is turning out just like I hoped and I wanted to show it all off...

Here are a few pictures of where I am at now. I am hoping to have shelves finished over the next couple of days and then I will move the air compressor in and start hooking everything up. Bike lift should be in by the weekend as well.

Shelving out of our old Walgreens. Very sturdy and perfect place to store bike parts waiting to ship out.

Got the shelves done and door opener up today. I do not have a supposrt for the large width door and I can tell easily that I am going to need one. The door also jerks a lot coming down ao I am going to have to adjust some track and oil a few things. Might even make a few extra brackets for the rail and motor...

Anyhow, Here is a picture of the shelves completed...

Excellent job man!
I'm looking at using the Ultimate Garage cabinets too, but keep hearing that Sears usually beats the hell out of them when they ship them. How do you like them so far? Are they everything you hoped for for the $$?

Interesting you should say that V-10. I love the cabinets and they seem very sturdy! However, I did receive one door that the corner was busted on. My wife called the number on the instructions "Bladez Corp." and they had us send them a copy of our receipt. He said they would ship us a new door for that cabinet. If they do what they say then all is good.

Another lesson learned is to NOT use a power drill when putting them together. I put their quick connect pieces in and tightened them way too tight on one of my drawers. It left bumps on the face of the drawer itself. Nothing I cannot live with but did ****!

Let us see some pics Charlie! How big of sticker did you go with? What kind of flooring you using?

You got me hyped now...

Wow, what a nice job! Looks very sharp.

I'm a motorcycle nut also, and will be pouring the slab for my 36x40 this Thursday. I am so excited I just about can't stand it!

Your pics have given me some inspiration, and more motivation to keep up my strategy of doing everything on this project the best way I can from the start. I want the finished product to be first class, I can only hope it turns out nearly as nice as yours!

If you don't mind, could you share with us what the floor coating cost you per square foot? I've got a lot of those squares to try to figure out what to do with!!!

What bikes you have or working on? Just ride them stock or do anything particular with them?

Thank you very much! If you have any questions please feel free to holler at me. I learned a lot as I experienced the building and finishing.

The material was bought from www.originalcolorchips.com and with shipping, rollers, shoes, gloves, mixers and all was $616.00 for 780 square. Comes out roughly to $0.79 per square foot if my math is correct. I called the place and they gave me a better deal than what was on the site. However, I would spend some more money and get enough for a second clear coat if I was to do it again. This is the solvent based product as well.

Wow, under a buck a square? That's not so bad, I was under the impression that it would be much more expensive.

My wife and I ride HD and Buell, as well as dirt bikes and mountain bikes. I always have some piece of two wheel conveyance needing work or upgrades of one sort or another!

Buell is stock, HD is NOT, dirt bikes are NOT. I do all my own work on my bikes.

Next question... What table did you buy? Did you find a smokin' deal?

The coating seems pretty good. The reason I state I would do a second coat which would put the cost around $.95 is because I drop a 4' piece of 3/4" black pipe the other day and it chipped it about the size of a dime. I was very unhappy but I am thinking that might have chipped about anything?

Table? I am guessing you are referring to the bike lift table? If so I bought it from Greg Smith Equipment Inc. in Indianapolis, IN. I went ahead and spent the money and bought the chopper extension and blackjack 1000 because my Triumph is over 9' long and I also do work on 4 wheelers and lawnmowers so I got the side extensions as well. Although it is not the most expensive or elaborate it serves me well. It is this one I believe but I have had it for a few years so things might have changed a bit.

http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Pro-Cycle-XLT-DT-Lift-p/tpprocycle-dt-fslash-tpxlt-kit.htm

I think I got mine for under $1000.00 for everything and I drove over and picked it up. Only a couple hours from me.
