need a new cordless drill

Well my 18v dewalt finally gave up on me and its time for a new cordless drill. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck right now, not really the cheapest thing but a good deal for what I'm getting.

I've found a few links for some Milwaukee and bosch sales for about 150 bucks. Is there anything else out there worth looking at?

I own 18v Ridgid and 18v Makita hammer drills and both work great, but I'm looking to upgrade to brushless soon. Yesterday I was wiring an addition with a buddy of mine and he had Milwaukee 18v Fuel and a Ryobi 18v. I swear on anything that Ryobi blew me away. It's not the Milwaukee by any means, but it's not as expensive either. I'm talking this thing was running 18" long 3/4" worm drill bits all day long without a hiccup since the m18 battery died about an hour in and he forgot the charge for it! I was truly impressed with that Ryobi and will be going back this morning to put it through more punishment. It's the green lithium ion set.

Brushless motors and "compact" designs are the latest industry improvements along with new slimline battery packs for reduced tool size and lighter weight with increased performance over older 4 pole brushed motors and larger sized batteries.

Makita has new sub compact sized offerings as well and Hitachi just released a new triple hammer function impact driver. Milwaukee Fuel brushless has been out for quite a while now (second generation) as well as the Makita brushless LXT's and of course Bosch, Rigid and Dewalt all have brushless tools too.

AndI think Ryobi has one model drill in a brushless

No matter what brand you favor now is a great time of the year to buy as most everybody has sales going on right now and there are many free tool offers with package deals

For general purpose I'd go with Milwaukee due to the breadth of products using std. M12 and M18 batteries.

If you really want a nice cordless drill go with Festool. They really are nice, but spendy.

There's definitely some new options out there that I don't know much about. I'D love to find a good combo drill driver kit.

I really think a trip to a big box store that has numerous cordless power tool displays can help you decide since most leading combo's in the various configurations have fairly similar specs it then comes down to the overall tool size...weight, length, handle configuration. Some will just feel better than others in your hand and that's what really counts.

Good timing for the old Dewalt to go, with all the combo sales through Home Depot ramping up for the holidays.

I went from Dewalt 18v to Milwaukee M12/M18 and couldn't be happier. M18 Drill and driver at home (as well as M12 radio and oscillating tool), and a whole mix of tools at work (impacts, ratchet, drills) with more to come.

I have most of the Hitachi 10.8v tools (impact, drill, right-angle impact, sawsall, etc). I love them. I don't have any experience with their 18v sets, but if they are the same quality as the 10.8v, they probably are awesome.

extreme home use here also, we switched to Ryobi a couple of years ago, remodeled a whole house with them and never missed a beat, there battery's exchange with al of there tools, even the older blue one's and when home depot has a sale on battery there cheap compared to other manufacturers

Get the older white makita drill and impact set on Amazon for 165 that's a good bargain for sure. I have them and love them and can't recommend makita enough. They really know what they're doing they invented first battery powered drill and lithium powered even. As far as I'm concerned they are the originators and everyone else are copy cats..truth lol

Go to home depot and check out their clearance section. Usually a good drill driver combo for 100-175$

I'm sure this will draw angry complaints, but my original Black and Deck 12v lithium is my goto tool for screwdriver and drilling stuff. Still works great. You can find the whole deal for like $50.

The Milwaukee M12 Fuel Hammer Drill & Impact at $199 with a free tool is the best bang for the buck right now IMHO, home depot to see in person, some places online have the kit at 199-229 with free tool.

Can't really go wrong with any of the brands -- Ryobi, Ridgid, Porter-Cable, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch. The larger sets are a better value if you want a wide range of tools. I see Porter-Cable and Ryobi sets for about $199 on sale sometimes (they come with impact driver, regular drill, circular saw, sawzall, multi-tool, flashlight, 2 batteries, charger, bag).

Dont get a compact milwaukee if its going to be used alot. Shop got impact and drill on a sale. the "compact" drill lasted about 2 days. Now it runs 5 seconds under no load. Then shuts off. Smells like burning windings. Makes me lol @ the garbage released these days. What a POS. The full size drills are work horses though. No problems with them.

I have a Metabo. I wouldn't buy it again if I could go back in time. Go with a main brand easily accessible like Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt etc. Whatever flavour best meets your price point and functionality.

What's wrong with the Metabo? I've had the sb18ltx for 6-7 years and love it.....even more than my old German-made 18v Milwaukee drill/driver.

i have a full line of ridgid tools which are great and not too expensive which i use everyday at work.for home use i have the full line of porter cable 18v,which have now gone to 20v making the 18v obsolete,that were very cheap but are great around the house.

For around the house the RYOBI lithium line is very good. For work, MILWAUKEE Fuel is great.

Gotta plug for Ridgid again. Others may be more refined but the lifetime warranty is killer. Ridgid just replaced my 9 year old failed Nicads with new batteries. Replaced 9 yo failed charger also. They have replaced 3 failed Li-Ion batteries over the years. Fixed trigger on 5 yo impact. All free. Just follow their warranty registration rules. Not that hard.

Ryobi is a great value I use them all the time, decent power durable, tons of accessories on the 18 volt platform. And the lithium batteries are affordable.

I'd go with Ingersoll Rand. Not cheap but I have their cordless ratchets, impact wrench and a 1/4" drill. Use them nearly every day and wouldn't buy anything else.
