Hi all. So I discovered this amazing forum after I picked up this old craftsman tool box that was left over from an estate sale. I got it for free and decided that i would try to restore it and gift it to my husband. To me, it looks mostly like a craftsman carpenters box, but there was no tray and it is divided on the inside. It also has some sort of clips attached to the inner side of the lid, and what I can only describe as a "pocket" on the inner side of the lid as well. Ive attached some pictures for reference.

If anybody can lead me in the right direction that would be awesome. Thanks.

Wish I could help to identify it but I can tell you for sure that it is not a carpenters box. A true carpenters box will be about 36" long to give the ability to fit a hand saw inside. It will also have a slot cut into the lid for a framing square to protrude as it will not fit entirely in the box. One top tray usually divided into three sections and about an inch narrower than the box. This will allow room for the hand saw and framing square in the rear, hinge side, of the box. Although most guys add a slotted block of wood attached to the interior of the lid to hold their hand saws. Like others said it looks like you have a drill box.

I also think it is too small for a carpenters box.

Thanks everyone! You were right about it not being a carpenters box, I'm now almost certain its a carrying case for a welding kit.

Does it measure close to 9" x 9" x 24" ?

Could be a carrying case for a welding outfit.

There are archived catalogs @
http://www.blackburntools.com/articles/rose-tools-catalog-archives/sears/index.html

You might find it in one of the 60's / 70's catalogs.
Thanks for the link to those!
After looking through the catalogs it seems to match the welding outfit cases exactly, even down to the fasteners on the inner side of the lid. I guess to narrow down the year I would have to find a number located somewhere on it? I didnt see one when I sanded it, and ive already applied the primer- so I guess I will never know (whoops). Thanks again guys!

With the handle style and logo with the thick black border, I'd guess the date in the mid-60’s.

If there is a model number, which I don't think there is, it would most likely be lightly stamped directly under the handle between the mounts.
