I am planning on doing a front rebuild on my car when the snow is gone in four months. Right now just gathering information. I need an impact wrench but do not need anything pro grade. I was looking at Harbor freight's central pneumatic 3/8" pro impact.Item #68425. Anyone use this or have a recommendation on something else. It will not be used that much, just light duty hobby stuff.
Thanks in advance Eric

I found an ingersoll rand 231 at a flea market for around $40. 1/2" drive and has taken anything apart that I've wanted it to.

I agree with the above statement. The IR 231C is phenominal for under $100, its only not broken 1 bolt for me and has otherwise been a powerhouse I can abuse and count on every time. Just buy it!

Headdings are such a hoot.
"Need Impact"
I read hedding like that and think you should run your car into a block wall and test the ipact.
I think that would take care ouf your impact needs. LOL

Don't buy GF electric tools or impacts. Craftsman are ok for the home owner but don't hold up all that well form what I have read and used.

IR makes good ones. There are good compaines that make them but you get what you pay for. There really is a huge differnce in quality.

Depends on the craftsman impact your talking of. I had the rebaged IR cman pro guns for years and they are great.

I second that RCStocker, I used a cheep impact Autozone sold for a year or 2 and the thing just sucked, it absolutely would not break anything difficult and I had to use a breaker bar which is rediculous when your investing in air tools to make work faster and easier. For my mechanical level and frequency of use the IR is perfect.

I have bought "quality" used ones a couple times and they have sucked. You can't tell how worn out an airtool is until you use it hard. Buy something new and good. I personally use Aircat and they are the best period. Cheaper then IR too.

Ok so I'm not going to suggest buying a used phantom impact that doesn't exist in your area, like some people do. Not sure how that helps anyone.

What I will do is say I've used the 1/2" version of that gun (The "Earthquake" series) and it beat out an IR 2135timax by an order of magnitude and was neck and neck with the Aircat 1100 in a home garage.

I personally would suggest getting the 1/2" version, especially working on the suspension, in the future if you find it cumbersome get the 3/8" but the 1/2" is more than any home garage could ever use IMO.

With your 20% off it's around $75. Don't forget your coupon.

The Earthquake series from HF has always gotten good reviews and this new line is better than the old version (owned one of those as well). It's one of the few things at HF that isn't junk. I recently did my front suspension and then after that swapped transmissions on my car, using that impact, it handled every bolt with ease including control arm bolts, sub frame bolts, etc. It also will take crank pulley bolts and axle nuts off with enough air, 90+ psi at the gun which means a tank pressure of over 120 psi.
