Is there a reason why an on going threads get deleted instead of locked? There was a whole debacle about Snap-On warranty and I believe it was in this forum.

I don't see any reason, in this democratic society, that we should delete or hide what was discussed.

Not to speak out of turn, but most threads get deleted because they head down the path of bickering and people arguing back and forth straying way off topic if what originally was being discussed.

yes but there's no need to delete it, just lock it up. Deleting or hiding it sends a completely different type of message that is it serves no purpose. I believe that any topic that is discussed in accordance with the rule of this forum, has its purpose.

I believe that when mods delete threads, they see users' opinions are not relevant or useless by their standards (inside their mind).

I've been on forums as long as dial-up 14.4KB/s was alive and I haven't seen these types of moderation.

This is your first wrong assumption. This is a privately owned forum. The owner gets to make the rules and you can abide, leave or be banned. Play nice, keep it garage related and technical and you will have no problems. I give Ryan 100% support for deleting threads that are just pissin contests.

Before this one gets locked, why keep locked threads present? Waste of.band width imo. This site is ran in a very democracy way. You don't have.to be part of it, but if you choose to there are rules to follow. This forum is for useful information garage related and to have some fun. Anything else is irrelevant.

Maybe it does, or maybe it doesn't, but it certainly is not necessarily so. Sometime a thread that should be deleted has some residual value and that's when it's retained as a locked thread.

One of the many reasons I come here is because their standards happen to be similar to my standards and having them take the trouble to weed out the junk saves me from having to do it - more power to them!

I think that's probably true, but I would venture to suggest that maybe you don't know how this one works. Like the vast majority of successful forums - it most certainly is not a democratic environment - it would die very quickly if it was.
