New 40x50 pole building

Hello. I am new to the forum. I'm in the process of trying to build a40x50 pole building with a 20x50 second floor. I've got drawings from there builder and applied for permits. I need a variance for a front yard set back and im getting a hard time from the town. They say the building is to big and non conforming to the neighborhood. Anyone have any advice. I can show you pictures if there building and survey of the property. By the way I'm in dutchess country NY. Thank you.

Sounds like what we call here Heritage Overlay. When a building in a certain area has to fit in.

So I had my zoning board meeting tonight. I didn't get shut down completely, had plenty of support from the neighbors. But they do seem like they want me to go smaller what do you think would be an ideal compromise. I'd hate to go to small and regret it

Here the issue would go to VCAT and be dealt with so what you do I have no idea. Sounds like you have to say what you want then see what happens. You can come down in size but not go up.
