New bench surface looks and performs great!

I finally finished my new bench's surface.
I'm using a commercial floor covering, made of chemical resistant rubber:

It's very easy to clean. An added benefit is that the texture keeps small (carburator) parts from rolling around and the contrast in color makes little items easy to find:

Hole for electrical cord:

Perimeter 'fence' keeps stuff ON the bench.
Dark mahogany stain looks great:

It's slowly taking shape:

I used a ribbed rubber runner that I bought from Lowe's for my benchtop. Used the scrap to line a couple drawers of my tool box as well.

Looks like a great idea! Is that rubber runner sold in a roll? How long and how wide is it? How is it attached to the bench surface?

Pine. It's a very low buck project.
The stain/varnish is so dark you can hardly see the grain:

Contact cement.

It comes in a 36'' wide roll and is sold by the foot (+/- 9$CDN)

The problem with ribbed material is that it's hard to sweep, as the dust and chips will tend to follow the ridge...

Ribbed it okay, as I have it on my mobile Lista cabinet....just make sure the ribs are facing the right way, so you can push the dirt, etc. off onto the floor.

It's 36" wide and the ribs run perpendicular to the width. I didn't care which way the ribs went, I figure that's what a shop vac is for. Why push it off onto the floor when I have to bend over and pick it up? My shop vac rarely sees any car vac duties, in fact, I'm thinking of putting in a couple of floor mounted openings that I just hook my shop vac hose up to, I'll sweep to this opening and forego the dust pan.

You can always flip it over, then it's smooth side up. I know it was far cheaper than $9/foot.
