I'm team yellow for almost all of their cordless (and corded) tool platform, and I have well over two dozen Dewalt cordless tools so far, BUT this is one of those tools that justifies why I do also keep a few red tools in the mix.

Perhaps my opinion will change if Dewalt does come out with a 12V version, but none of these so far are anything I'm looking forward to getting. I LUV Dewalt's ratchets and the tiny 12V batteries that use the same chargers as their 20V/60V, and find that the longer ratchet design is a huge plus to minimize the jerk and help keep my fingers out of the smash-zone when they hit full stop over my shorter Milwaukees, but I can't see any benefits to having a longer die grinder. Milwaukee's 12V battery platform is just a much better design for this type tool.

If I hadn't already invested in both platforms and I was still solely team yellow, I'd probably be getting one and I'm sure I'd be happy with it. I too look forward to hearing opinions from anyone who does get one. Perhaps they will be able to talk me into giving one a go too.

The M12 grinder doesn't win any awards for power, but the form factor is great. If I didn't own one, i could see grabbing the Dewalt as I have a lot of yellow tools, but I don't see upgrading to it.

At least not this week

Die grinder is one tool that’s much better in an air version unless you have special needs.
I dont know if I would say not wanting or needing a big compressor is a "special need" but I know I'm not alone there.

Heavy users definitely should run air, but I get a lot of value out of having a cordless grinder

True, (1) IF what I'm working on is in my shop (or someplace compressed air is readily available), and / or (2) IF it's a task that's going to take more than a minute or so to do.

More than half of what I use a die grinder on does not meet one or both of those situations, which makes having a cordless option either indispensable or a time saver.

I would have to agree on the air preference, although I can see where a cordless option could be handy. I have a 60 gal compressor in my shop, and really the only thing it gets used for anymore it the blast cabinet, air nozzle, and die grinder. I have never really had a need for a die grinder outside of the shop, but I do have cordless grinders and bandsaws that can take care of most of those needs. The vast majority of my die grinder needs evolve around metalwork, and that doesn't really happen outside of the reach of the air drops in my shop.

The new m12 RA grinder has a ton more power. Not sure if you've tried that one yet.

Anyhow, I have all the m12 grinder variants (straight and RA, old and new, etc.) as well as dewalt's original straight 20 volt grinder. They're all useful for different things. I actually like the fact that the old dewalt has the long "neck" as it's useful for controlling the thing. It is really big though, so if I didn't have the m12, I could certainly see a more compact model being useful.

I would certainly consider picking up one of these new models when they start to get discounted.

I haven't had a chance. The OG does enough for me that I likely won't look at the new one unless mine dies

Also looking to get die grinders, straight and angle. The IR ones at Home Depot are not bad.
