I'm in the process of getting a 30x40 metal garage put on my property. I'm getting pretty excited to have some dedicated woodworking space. I've looked through various websites and even searched around here - I just want some opinions from y'all if possible!
I want to build a 16x30 room inside this garage - it will be used as a gym and I'm in Florida so it will absolutely need to be insulated. Right now I have plans and have talked with others that have built garage similar. So I have two different plans for this and want to know if you've done any of this and how it worked out for you
1) build studs into existing garage frame (horizontal studs) with fiberglass R13 insulation, drywall over, AC Wall unit, done
2) build an entire new wall with insulation in new wooden (vertical) studs
The other issue I'm facing is building the ceiling and honestly this is probably my biggest issue right now. With either option above, I'm debating if I need to use 2x10x16 for the rafters (I want to use above the ceiling for some storage area) or if it would be better to get a 30' I beam at center of room sitting on 4x4 steel posts at either end and then attach 2x6 rafters.
I'm no engineer so advice would be greatly appreciated - and yes I could get this subcontracted out but I love doing stuff like this that challenges me!
