Hey my name is Tom and I am new to this forum...even though I have been a lurker for some time. 4 years ago (after my last daughter got married) I bought a 1994 Corvette as my toy (I had a 64 Corvette in my "younger" days), anyway after buying the Vette my pickup had to sit outside, which I never liked. It has only been in the last year or so that I have been trying to figure some way to get my PU back in the garage. I decided that I had room for a 4 post lift, which would allow me the room to park the Vette on the lift, the wife's car under the lift and the pickup beside them.
I just got that project completed. It required me to convert the garage door to a "high lift", I did this by adding a 5th "dummy" panel on the top of the existing door and extending the track up an additional 2'. The garage has slightly over 10' ceilings so this worked out well. Here is a picture of the result. This is my son-in-law standing under the Vette, as far up as the lift will go and the door opened.
The next step is building some cabinets to go in front of the lift to replace the shelves that are there and "clean up" that area a bit. Then some sort of floor covering. I've considered RaceDeck type of tiles, but now with the lift in I don't want to lose any height (not even a little bit), so I am now looking into epoxy.
I do custom woodworking/cabinetry (in my spare time) and have another "garage" behind the house for that, so I will have opinions/experience to offer up here. Sorry for the long post, but I get carried away.
