i have a jump box use it often it is better than a set of jumper cables and much more versatile also.sometimes a vehicle may be in a position you cant get to easy to jump it but the jump box works anywhere.
Have one at work that is made using a lawnmower battery and is dirt cheap to build than the store bought ones that don't last. This one that is built using a lawnmower battery with over 300 cca has been holding up great,a battery tendor is hooked up to it when not in use. Most car auctions, you will not see a store bought jumper box used.It is usually a car battery on a two wheel cart with jumper cables hooked up to the battery. The store bought jumper boxes use a wheel chair battery with not a lot of cold cranking amps.
I have gone through 2 of them in 4 yrs. The only problem I found with the 660 is it doesn't have a auto shut off in the charging circut. You end up over charging the unit, and the batt get a memory and eventually shorts/cuts out and no longer works. All in all it was pretty good. I up graded to the yellow jump and carry with the compressor. This model has a cut off when its fully charged. Paid $270 for it. If you got the warranty flat rate card that comes with it I suggest you fill it out before it gets lost. It is not a bad deal for $75 to get another one or refurbed. Good luck, and enjoy your new score.
i love jump boxes. so many things they can be used for. i have a truck in the garage that might move a few times a years. cant get jumper cables to it in the winter so the box helps out a lot.
I have that exact model and it's held up fine over the last year I've had it. My co-worker also has one that works just fine. The stupid white clamp covers don't last long before they "loop" breaks off and the covers don't just hang on the cables when not used or whatever. That's a minor annoying thing though. Overall it's a good unit to have if you work in a shop.
we have those in our shop, I've used them 10 times already and have yet to have a problem, although when wrapping the clamps back around, be careful as the last rotation is a tight fit, and we the ones at the shop have had the insulation cut through because of it
I just bought that exact same jump box this month! It's the model that just about every tow truck guy or AAA guy uses. They are supposed to be incredible for what they are.
While I haven't had much experience with this specific model, I have owned several 'consumer' models in the past, that have been life savers. I have bailed countless people out with those things.
I even had a starter go bad in a parking lot once, and used the jumper pack in conjunction with my car battery to get just enough juice to turn it over.
I really think everyone who drives a car should own one.
In the jump boxes I have had experience with they have lead acid batteries like car batteries and are sealed. They last about as long as car batteries and should be charged often like car batteries. A new battery costs about $50.
I guess I scored good then! Thanks for the replies. I noticed after the fact that it didn't have an automatic shut off for the charging it. No problem, I'll just have to keep an eye on it...

I had a thread a while back about this, and even though I did have problems at first (defective charger I think), It's easy to just hook up a smart battery maintainer to the positive and negative cables of you jump box which will charge it up to the proper charge and then stop.
If you do go this route, make sure the maintainer you choose has a very low amp output (mine is like 1.25amps).
