New Longer Tekton Ratchets

While killing some time this evening, I noticed Tekton added longer fixed head ratchets to their ratchet selection. Tekton now offers a 9 inch 1/4 drive fixed head ratchet along with a 12 inch long 3/8 drive version, and an 18 inch long 1/2 drive model.
You can get the new longer ratchets with a comfort grip handle or an all metal handle, with quick release or without quick release. So many choices. Can longer flex head ratchet versions be on the horizon? :dunno:

Thos are huge, 9 inch for 1/4"... I guess it's nice to have options but I can probably snap any fastener that a 1/4" turns with a standard handle length.

I often find that 1/4 ratchets are awkwardly small, plus reach isn't great. With a slim 1/4 to 3/8 adapter, it might make a decent option to cover a wide range?

I feel like I'm the only one that has almost no interest in Tekton. I don't think they're bad tools, they just never do anything that tickles my pickle.

I don’t think they are world beaters, but they certainly occupy an old-world craftsman niche. Decent quality, decent pricing, easy warranty.

No one is going to be wowed because you have Tekton in your box.

They have had at least the 18” 3/8 ratchet and the 24” 1/2” ratchet for years now, it’s not a recent thing.

And the prices seem quite high for Tekton. I'll stick with ASTRO for these types of ratchets.

Cmon- ratchets are an afterthought for Astro (which is fine) - how many do they offer in comparison to Tekton or Gearwrench? I just went to the Astro site and under hand tools and there is no pulldown selection for ratchets. So, I think that tells us what we need to know- an afterthought that they can't even bother to add a pulldown selection for.

I have some Astro stuff, and like it, but they're not a go-to for ratchets IMO. Most of my ratchets are the GW 90T with a few Tekton, Matco, Snap On, SK....

I have a few Tekton 90t ratchets and I like them. Not my first choice to grab

Although I do have to say their comfort grips are my most favorite. Great feel in my hand.

They are nice but I can’t stand they don’t put the name on the head. That drives me nuts so until they fix that I’m not buying lol. I’m in the market for a 12 inch 3/8 though.

I have a few Tekton ratchets and that also always bothered me. They need to add a nice chamfer on the head, and stamp "Tekton" into it- like Gearwrench does. Saying that, the Tekton 90T ratchets are quite good for the $, they stock rebuild kits....

That's why they weren't mentioned in my thread. I only focused on the new lengths being introduced 1/4 X 9, 3/8 X 12, and 1/2 by 18.

However, I'm thinking of getting a 1/4 drive 9 inch version with a comfort grip and getting a 3/8 in a 1/4 body repair kit to create a long comfort grip low profile 3/8 ratchet :bounce:

Can you swap the guts between them?

As a general question, no. But they do make a slim 3/8 gearset that fits in a 1/4 ratchet. The standard 3/8 gear is taller (of course) and does not fit in a 1/4 ratchet. So, the 3/8 to 1/4 is not supposed to take the same torque as their typical 3/8, it's a "I want a bigger drive in a smaller ratchet" thing. I converted a 1/4 to 3/8 and use it for tap sockets.

I think this is clear, but the Tekton standard 3/8 internals do not fit a 1/4 ratchet. Or vice versa. The special 1/4 drive gear with 3/8 anvil kit does fit the 3/8 ratchet.

So, if the question is: "Can you swap the guts between them?" (3/8 and 1/4)
the answer is no.

True, but the question was long ratchets and ASTRO has both a 1/4" and a 3/8" drive ratchet with a tiny head and a long handle that I would consider superior to the specific Tekton ratchets in question. But, as we all know, Chris Petit hates comfort grips so that's not going to happen.

It's under wrenches and screwdrivers. https://www.astrotools.com/product-category/hand-tools/wrenches-screwdrivers/ They also had around 6 new models shown at SEMA.
But if the argument is Astro made more affordable ratchets that some view as better without even trying then that's certainly a take

Well, that's my point. They don't have a ratchet pull down, and they have 4 ratchets with an anvil. Again, ratchets are an afterthought for them. Tekton has fourteen different 1/4 drive ratchet offerings. And they visually have much thinner heads than astro.
