Hey fellas,
I've been lurking here for years and finally decided enough is enough...its time to start posting. This morning I bought 2 Wilton vises and thought this might be the perfect way to get started on the forum.
I've wanted a Wilton for years and search Craigslist and garage sales all the time. Unfortunately what I always find are the big models and I simply don't have room in my garage. Yesterday I found these 2 posted and I picked them up this morning. I'm going to start working on them right away and will use this thread to show my progress. I am all ears for advice and pointers!
First up is a 940 WE with a date code of 3/50. 4 inch jaws. It opens and closes easily but, as you can see, it is missing a few parts. I will need to find replacements for the end cap and both spindle handles. Is Wiltonviseparts.net the best place to go? I've read that the owner is a member here and I sure would like to support this group. I don't see too much rust but I haven't cleaned it yet. My though is to take it apart and degrease it with Purple Power and then see what needs to be done. Any suggestions?
The second vise is marked 101166. I think this is a Model CO combination vise. It is date stamped 12/94 and still has some remnants of the green paint. 3.5 inch jaws. Looks like all the parts are there. It opens and closes fairly easily. Some surface rust but, again, I need to clean it to see what she really looks like.
I picked these up for $200 for the pair.
So, disassemble, degrease and then see what I need to do after that, correct? I'll post pics as the work progresses.
