FLMNG: so you went and bought one of the few that are still on my list of vises to own and as you might know I don't NEED a vise. also I really like that design where the jaws are bolted in from the back.

also how much does your 800S weigh with the swivel base attached?

Yeah, it really was dumb luck. I may have overpaid since the tailpiece needs to be repaired, but I am happy since I get a larger vise than I was expecting for the outlay budgeted. It really isn't hurt that bad, with only a few ding marks on the jaws (they are still plenty sharp), the anvil doesn't look it has ever been touched, and the tailpiece is only welded halfway around the back, so it should be pretty easy to separate the halves. I have Spring Break the week after next, so I will be doing the surgery then and hitting it with several coats of Verde Green. And I really like the external mount of the jaw bolts too. I have some ideas for copper/aluminum jaws utilizing that configuration.
As for mounting, it will go temporarily on a ~300 pound I-beam section that I use as an anvil that just sits on the ground for now. I don't have a giant bench, and we may be moving in the next 6 months to year, but it's ultimate home will be post mounted and anchored in the ground with some sort of water proof cover custom made for it. If I have a huge need before then, then I will mount it in a more permanent fashion.
Since it has a 6-89 date code, I am thinking it is of the newer vintage of 240 lbs, but it sure did feel heavier just manipulating it around myself. As you can see I took it apart in four pieces to unload it off the truck. But I do not have a scale that is pre-approved by the wife for measuring vises. If I keep hauling these things home it looks like I will have to make that a priority, though!
