-Nice old lathe of good pedigree and described as good condition including the ways. Somebody should go get it, price is certainly good.

I keep hearing that manual machine tools that are too big for home shops tend to go for barely over scrap rates. This looks like an example of that.

That machine would work for me, assuming it has a 5 hp motor, which is what I think they came with. My rotary phase converter runs off of a 10 hp motor, which limits me to 5 hp on the output end. A lathe like that would be at least $5K around here.

-That's what happens to a lot of them, scrap yard. A bit sad to see them end up that way.

The drawbacks of a big lathe are large 3 phase motor, they take up space, and they usually have a rather limited RPM range, especially old ones. I ran a big beast at work with a max RPM of 460.
