Just stumbled on to this forum, I am looking for information on how to put an apartment in an existing pole barn/garage. My garage seems to have a good foundation. My questions is where to start, do I need to put plumbing in first? Or, can I have some one frame then plumb? I am limited on funds-and would like to pay for each improvement as I go. I have looked at the treads, and there are lots of helpful information-but I need a starting point. Info-Barn has been used for paint and body work so floor has some issues with oil and other fluids, it is 40 by 40 and about 20? high, divided in half with a wall- Any and all ideas would be appreciated -Note: I also live in Oklahoma so weather can be 104 in summer to 20 in winter, Thank you kae

WElcome to GJ kae. You've asked some some pretty broad questions but I'll take a shot at answering your question in broad terms.
The first thing you'll need to do is any under slab plumbing, which will probably require cutting though your existing slab. You could consider building a wood platform over your existing concrete slab. It would give you a place to run plumbing and provide a better floor surface than our concrete slab.
Your next step is rough framing of partitions. Next comes plumbing, heat and electrical rough-in followed by insulation and drywall. Do your finish carpentry, flooring and paint you're done. Nothing to
