Hello all, I'm converting a 2 bay carport to a 2 car garage. Lvl beam supported by a 6x6 post only carries the roof load.

My understanding is that I run king studs on either side, nail jack studs to the king and 2 2x' sitting on the jacks, then pad out the left, right and top with 2x6' for attaching garage door hardware and overhead torsion spring.

Been a while since I worked on a garage door, I did a 2 car gd opening to one big door years ago (lvl insalled up high)

Cheers

This is basically what I did last time.

Since you already have a structural LVL beam overhead, you do not need to build two separate heavyweight headers. Instead, you will build downward from the existing beam using standard 2x4 or 2x6 framing lumber (match your wall depth).

Sounds good, yes. No pictures needed; clearly, the wall does not exist, and any person who wants to post in this thread should know immediately what the wall should look like.

Under the circumstances, you don't need much stiffness over the door, but I think you need some. You could just use cripple studs if you think you can get them securely attached, but that's hard to do. Use your judgement.
