Northern Tool Profusion heater operation

I just bought this heater and the fan doesn't seem to be working.

Can anyone with this heater tell me if the fan comes on at the exact time the element starts heating or if there's a delay? My element gets hot, but the fan doesn't spin. I didn't want to risk leaving it on too long and melting down the entire heater if the fan is defective.

You would think. I already called technical support and they were completely unhelpful, which is the reason I started this thread. They didn't know the answer to my question.

I just hooked up one of these for my Father-In-Law. His fan doesn't start right away, the heater element heats up first, then the fan starts. It takes several seconds for the fan to start.

I have the bigger version of that heater and mine will turn the element on to let it get warm first then kick the fan on. This way you get heat when the fan comes on and not a blast of cold air followed by heat.

Looking at the schematic in the owner's manual it appears that some of the heating elements are controlled by a second set of contacts, so it may be designed to turn on the fan and a few of the heating elements right away, then turn on the rest of the heating elements after some time period. However, the schematic is pretty generic and doesn't clarify what those extra contacts are or if they are on a time delay. Having said that, I would imagine any delay is going to be pretty short - certainly less than 30 seconds.

There are two modes of operation, 3000W and 5000W, selectable by the power switch. I don't see any timers in the heater or in the schematic.

As it turns out, and I didn't figure this out with the help of the company's awful tech support, there is a fan on delay. The heating elements need to reach about 650 degrees F, as measured with an IR gun, before the fan turns on! That seems excessive to me, but it's working, so whatever.
