Not covert! What am I missing?

I continue to read posts about people needing advice or perhaps a helping hand, yet I have no idea where they are located.

One post lately the individual needed the use of test equipment I have, and would be willing to loan a GJ brethren, yet I don't have a clue where he is at.

What am I missing? Am I being a fool for posting the city I am located in? I am not on the witness protection program, pay my taxes, etc. Clearly I don't want to brag about having a fleet of high dollar cars, or a garage full of Snap On and I get that., but is there something else I am missing?

If they do not have a location posted under the Avatar then it is up to you how you respond to them or if you loan it to them.

Some members just never complete that information.

Personally I am always willing to help but some times it is just not practical.

Sam, it's been brought up time and time again about members updating their location in their profile. It helps other members giving them advice when they ask questions that may have a specific answer based on where they live.

I realize some people like to be careful about their location but we're not asking for a specific street address, just a general location.

I created a sticky in the "Introduce yourself thread" hoping to curb the lack of locations. Has it helped ? I'd like to think it has but I really don't know.
