Oil drip system for fireplace

Anyone have any good plans for burning used motor oil in their firplace. I plan on making some kind of drip system for mine. Thanks, bedrok

I would not do that in an open fireplace just incase something in the oild goes BANG. I tip a little sump oil into my pot belly wood heater in my shed every so often specialy if the wood is damp. I have seen some drip systems designed to do this. I have also seen workshop heaters that burn just the oil.

I built the one in mutha earth news, seems the trick is preheating the oil, i centrifuged it also, more of a novelty, but it was cool when i had a steady supply of waste oil.

I have one on my wood/coal burner for the shop.Mounted a 4 gal tank on the outside of the air jacket to keep the oil warm.Works good for a few days ,then the end of the drip tube gets coked up and wont drip.I used 3/8 pipe for the tube and feed it with a t,so that I can ream out the coke by pulling a 3/8 plug on the outside of the stove.I think its more trouble than its worth.

edit) it does smoke and stink a bit,might be a problem where you live,not for me,I dont have nieghbors!
