Old Atlas Disc Sander - I think...

Hey guys, picked this up yesterday at a yard sale. I was pretty excited when the guy said he wanted $10 for it. It's rough looking and has a homemade base and table but it was made well and runs perfectly smooth and quite. Came with two different miter gauges. My question is, do you guys think it was an actual disc sander that got the base replaced at some point or do you think it was a motor off an old drill press or something that got made into this contraption? I don't care either way really, just curious more than anything. Any recommendations for cleaning all the hardened adhesive residue off the disc or should I even bother? Here are some pictures:

Is the disc a casting with a number or the like? Looks like a homemade job to me.

Can you give us a side shot so we can see how the table is mounted ?
Right now I'm leaning toward DYI.
