i recently got a 60 gallon compressor with a kellogg american 371 pump and 1hp peerless motor.
the compressor was listed as not working, the start cap had gone bad on the motor.
the pump oil sight glass showed dark brown oil so i tried to drain it.
2 days of oil coming out between chilled honey with globs/chunks of coagulated funk and the sight glass still shows full.
i pulled the 3/8 ths pipe ****** off the pump and found some chunks of rust blocking the pipe, i cleared those out and tilted the compressor and got a little more oil out, the sight glass is still showing 3/4 full.
can i run some lighter fluid through it to try and clear out the grime?
is there hope for this pump short of a rebuild?
i did run it for about 5 minutes and it was filling the tank with no strange noises.
