Old generator heads

Anyone know a good source for an old generator head? Like from an old Lincoln generator or Winco? I'd like to build up a heavier generator than I can buy, about 10-20K watts. This size is a little pricey, new, and besides the old ones are easier to fix. Just brushes and bearings, no automatic voltage regulators to go out at the wrong time.

Should be a 4-wire type so it can be properly wired to a generator panel.

Thanks,
Billy

Check the military surplus auctions-a few years ago, they were selling off 20 kw diesels on trailers with 125 gallon fuel tanks-my old boss bought 2 for $1000 each. They were set up for either 120-208v 3phase 80 amps or 277-480v 3 phase 40 amps. They were powered by Detroit diesel 2 cylinder engines and the generators were built by AC Delco.
For thier rated capacity, they were way overbuilt-better than any generators that I've ever seen.

Fast Orange,

Thanks, I'll check it out. Seen a few government auctions, but they are quite a ways from me, in Houston.

Billy,

You might want to give Bill's Welder Repair a try. I think they are in Oklahoma. They are really fine people to deal with. I visit several welding related sites and have never heard a bad thing about this place. They have been in business a long time and can probably answer any question you have about generators. Just Google Bills welder repair.
