Old Millermatic 35

I picked up an old millermatic 35 awhile back,I know very little about this welder.I had a real nice Linde migmaster years ago,but am no expert by any stretch of the imagination.Have used it a couple of times but is seems real anemic and the wire speed is real slow.I checked the diodes and 3 of them read .466 uf and one is .428 any suggestions on where to start.Any help would be appreciated. Oh and btw hello all this is my first time to your site..Thanks in advance..

Don't know about the diodes, but the first thing to check is the gun feed liner to make sure it's not gunked up. That could slow the feed down.

Diodes do not measure uf they measure ohms. They should be tested out of the circuit , low resistance one way and high resistance the other way . there are capacitors paralleled across them in your welder , they have to be disconnected to test and to be accurate you need a proper meter for capacitance (uF).

First make sure the line cord is wired for the correct voltage , 208 0r 240 vac

The Millermatic 35 is one of the classic wire feeds and extremely durable. It should not present any difficulties if working properly. Sometimes, the reason it was such a good deal is there is a problem.

I've had my 35 since '75, only thing I did to it was replace the complete gun last year. Liner was cruded up along with needing a nozzle, tips. Got the entire gun for $75 shipped to the house.

Thanks for all the great suggestions It is on a 8 gauge 50amp breaker,I am diagnostic illiterate on most things.I thought the guy checking the diodes said uf,He took them out and checked them with a meter.Will have him recheck them again with ohms meter.The wire seems to run smooth when not under a load,just pressing the trigger with no gas on powered up,Will check that further,again thanks for all your help..
