I bought this jack from NAPA years ago and it needs a rebuild. All the tags are long gone, so no idea what the model number is. NAPA is no help at all.

Where to start? Or don't bother?

Yes, pictures are a must to help identify it. That said, from what I've read and seen, even import jacks from 30 years ago are far better than the ones sold today. I just replaced the seals in an orange import a few months ago that had a good u-cup design. I think, including the u-cup and o-rings, I spent under $10, so unless the rest of the jack is utter junk, IMHO, it's worth rebuilding. Now, if you are looking for an excuse to buy a newer shinier one, that's a different story.

Based off the condition in the pictures, I'd Pass. If by some small miracle the rod finish on the pump piston/ram and cylinder walls is good, maybe Measure out the seals needed and re-seal it if you can get them near cost locally. It's not from the Walker/Lincoln family that Napa used to sell, it's a Import.

Aint had an easy life has it. Take it completely apart, get everything except the pump sandblasted and see what ya got. I doubt I would mess with it, pretty badly rusted.

It's just light surface rust, really.

Anyways, as it turns out, it still works. It was laid up with the ram entirely retracted, and pumped up readily. Could not move the release valve, but some drenching with Break Free and some gentle coaxing with a hammer eventually got it to where I could rotate it with the handle and, eventually, got it free enough to let the saddle come down.

After soaking a few more places, to reduce the creaks and groans, I managed lift up the front of a V6 Camry and it did not leak down. I only watched if for a couple minutes, but, not bad, at least for now.

Not exactly a "rapid pump", but least I can save the cost of a new jack, for the moment anyway.
