opinions/recommendations for a load panel 200amps

and a stupid question here: do you need a secon(dary) load center for 220v?

i am planning on 5,possibly 6 receptacles for 220v and what looks like 2 dozen receptacles in shop...

learning as i go...and not wanting to kick myself once drywall is up.....i will also pre wire for 3 ceiling fans and a powdercoat oven (220v)

That would be a fine panel for a shop. Plenty of spaces for all your double-breakers you'll need for those 240v receptacles (2 slots per) and for multiple circuits of 20a 120v receptacles also.

240v power is delivered by using double breakers, which tap into both A and B legs of the panel power.

get a Cutler Hammer CH or Square D QO.

geta 42 space, cost difference between a 30 and 42 space is negligable. rough it in with some pipes into the attic space for future or boxes below the panel you could put extensions on for surface conduit for future use.

CH has two lines, the existing, original CH line, and the old Bryant line they purchased. Many people say the BR line is no good, but its no worse than any other I suspect, in any case, the OP is in Canada and CA panels are usually different in some ways including certifications. The OP needs to go to stores and shop and see what is available for him.

The panel in the link IS a Cutler-Hammer, they're owned by Eaton these days.

Cutler-Hammer has been owned by Eaton since 1978 so it's old news, the BR "Engineered Value" line came from their acquiring the electrical distribution & control div. of Westinghouse in 1994.

No matter what brand of panel you select, be aware that each manufacturer uses their own proprietary breakers. You cannot mix brands in a specific box in most cases. Be sure whichever brand you pick, the breakers are available locally. When I wired my house I used a GE panel because I like GE and because Home Depot stocked them at the time. No sooner did I install it than HD dropped the GE line and now only carries a limited number of breakers for GE. I had to drive quite a distance to an electrical supply house to buy breakers and accessories for a while. Fortunately Lowes has opened several stores in my area and now carries GE panels and breakers, but keep that in mind.
