Got to replace some frayed cables on a friends door. Is there a specific type for this kind of application . Single bay 10 wide 12 high insulated with 1/8” cable . I’ve installed and tuned but has been 20 years since I had to deal with one . Never had to replace a cable before because either new installation or they were good condition , tia.

If you can get the cables off, measure them, you can find them pre made online pretty cheap

Most important is they are the exact same length as the old ones. 1/8" cable has 2 common options. Coarse strand or fine. The fine is more flexible and conforms to the drum easier. Would be my choice.

No specification that I know of.

When you think about it, it is a pretty low stress application.

Standard 7x7 or 7x19 cable will be fine. The ends and the length are the important part. Make sure that the cable is 1/8" because 5/32" cable is commonly used is overhead doors as well. With a door that size, it will be torsion spring, so you will need to remove the tension in order to do that. If you do that, you will need to count the number of turns on the springs in order to rewind them correctly.

Price isn’t a concern at all . And I do know about the torsion spring aspect of the job . Used a Vernier for measurement and got 0.128 on dial. Hadn’t even thought of HD or Lowe’s . Like I said have always just worked with what was already installed or supplied new . Looks pretty simple so thanks guys . Figured it wasn’t anything special but alys good to check in here .
