Paint Overspray - What to do?

I put two coats of Rust Oleum Pro and one coat of the clear on my floor about three weeks ago. This weekend, I spray painted six shelve brackets with black Rust Oleum spray paint using a 4 x 8 sheet of masonite to protect the floor. Spray painting would have been done outside if it wasn't windy and raining but the garage door was closed. I picked up the masonite late last night and noticed a distinct line where I got some overspray on the floor. The spray paint can says it cleans up wet or dry with Xylol. I'm going to call Rust Oleum Customer Service tomorrow. Has anyone else faced this situation? What did you do?

I'd check with Rustoleum first. Xylol may be dissolve the floor. Try a can of carb cleaner - something acetone based preferably. Acetone should not hurt the floor.

With the epoxy on my floor, I've been amazed at what will come up with plain soap and water and a sponge mop. Overspray usually isn't too well adhered - it typically drys somewhat before hitting the surface and comes up easier than if you actually spilled paint or sprayed directly onto the floor.

I talked to Rust Oleum Technical Support a few minutes ago. The rep said to try Simple Green and a soft cloth first. If that doesn't work, it's onto acetone and a soft cloth. He said the main thing is to not scrub too hard or use a brush that will scratch the surface. We'll see how it goes in a couple of days. My work schedule is going to keep me from getting to it until Friday night.

I used Laquer Thinner to remove some paint and clean up an oil spill on my floor which is Rustoleum epoxy. Cleaned right up but left it a bit "dull" looking. Wet mopping the whole floor with detergent cleaned that up and left a uniform "shine".

BTW: how many of you purchased the industrial mop and bucket ? I think I spend more time cleaning my garage floor than the living area...:lol_hitti

I haven't bought anything yet but my fiance made a comment the other day that we need to find something to mop it with. She won't end up cleaning the floor - she just wants me to be able to do it. So far, I have just used a push broom and my shop vac. It needs to be mopped once I find all of the floor - still lots of stuff from the move laying around.

That would be me. I spent about $100 on the bucket, handle and mops. It is a "must have" for an epoxied floor.......

Today was the day to see how to remove the paint overspray. The acetone (and some elboy grease) did remove the overspray without damaging the finish on the epoxy. Straight simple green didn't do anything.

Me too for the mop & bucket, first thing I bought after the floor was done.

Randy

P.S. I need to find better quality mop heads, I have tried 2 different kinds and they both fell apart after 7 or 8 uses.
