Painting concrete floor.......

To be exact, we need to repaint the bathroom floor at work. It is concrete and has been painted before. It is subjected to heavy foot traffic, cleaning chemicals, and of course pee. The guy that painted it before is no longer with us and we don't know what he used. It is gray and had a very strong odor when applied.

We do not want a floor that is super slick when wet ( it is a public facility ). Is there a texture to add to paint to help this? If so, how easy is it to mop? Meaning, if there is a lot of resistance while mopping the staff won't want to do it. They don't want to do it as it is. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Paint is not what I would recommend. Do it right for the last time. Have an antimicrobial quartz floor installed. It's a poured 100% solids epoxy with double broadcasted quartz and urethane or polyaspartic finish. Its a 1/8 to 3/16 inch flooring system depending of the size aggregate option chosen. For commercial bathrooms and kitchens, we use a epoxy system with Bio Pruf anti microbial treatment. Hear are some examples of the type of floor.

Paint is just that, paint. It will not hold up to normal wear and tear. It does not chemically bond to the concrete as does a resinous system. Paint is very pourous and will hold bacteria and cause odor as well.

Call an industrial epoxy applicator in your area or call some major manufacturers and ask for a certified installer to give you some quotes. Good luck!
