Similar issue.
I have resized a photo down to 100 X 75 pix for use as an avatar, but I get the same msg. upload failed. I've tried other ways such as copying an image from photobucket. Same result. I use the same type of forum on a motorcycle website without any problems. Can someone help me and tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong??
Thanks

I had the same problem for a long time. Finally , one day by accident, I changed the size setting on the camera, problem solved.

IDK I am able to re size mine after I take them off the camera, to 1600 X 1200 and they are so big before you have to view full screen. They say the limit is 146.5 KB.but I have uploaded bigger, the site seems to re size them for me.

This one is/was 1600x900 and 315 KB.
The site re sized it to 156KB

I have tried loading photo files for an avitar using both my computer files and "photobucket"
Resized as small as 20k and still get the msg. "Upload of file failed" when I save the changes. The pic. shows up on the "edit page" though as if it accepted it. WTF !!

I figured my issue out and I'll put it down here for anyone who might be having the same problem.
First go to your Control Panel and choose "Edit Options"
then go to the bottom of the page ........
then from the drop down menu in "Misc. Options" choose "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG editing"
then go back to your C.P.and choose Edit profile picture
I think you could then use either existing files on your computer or do as I did and use Photobucket . There I chose/copied the IMG code and pasted it in the #1. option after deleting the existing http://www.. Saved the changes and it was all good.
