Here is a small step by step on how I mounted a small piston on my shifter for a shift knob on my Track T:
I used a piston of un-known origin because I had it, and it fit my hand well:
I determined that the pin diameter was .562". The first step was to cut off a 9/16" bolt to 1 3/4" long as the new pin:
I next ground a couple of 1/8" x 1/2" flats with my angle grinder:
I then drilled a couple of .159" holes in each nof the pin bosses and tapped them with a 10-24 tap. These holes will accept two 10-24 stainless button head allen screws that will lock the pin in place. The allen screws tighten down on the flats of the new pin:
I tacked a couple of 3/8-24 nuts together to make a simple thread boss that will thread onto the shifter handle:
Using a bolt to hold the new thread boss, I positioned it onto the pin and welded it on both sides:
The completed assembly threads onto the Fenton 500 shifter handle and looks pretty cool. I now need to figure out how to remove the broken rings, and give it a nice brushed finish on my lathe:
