Plastic staples for 6/2 NM?

I am running some 6/2 NM romex wire for my welder outlets and am having difficulty figuring out what is the correct plastic staple for this wire. The only staple in the local box store was 3/4" #6 SEU, but when stapling the 6/2 wire it doesn't provide a tight fit. I also bought some 3/4" plastic staples which the package says is good for as large as 10/3, and when comparing to the thickness of the 6/2 they are definitely not deep enough. What should I use? This is being inspected, so I want to make sure I meet code instead of having to rip them all out after inspection.

Have u tried a 1 1/4" #6 staple?

That one looks even larger than the #6 SEU I'm using. The #6 SEU is 3/4" wide whereas the #6 SER is 1.25" wide. Depth-wise I'm not sure how they compare, but an SER has an additional #6 wire in it compared to SEU (which may be why it is wider).

I'm thinking I may just have to go with an all-metal 3/4" staple for this wire, which would eliminate the depth restriction caused by the plastic staple. Anyone care to comment on whether this is allowed by NEC for NM wire?

My mistake. I misread what u previously wrote. I thought u needed more depth on the staple.

Yes Metal staples without plastic guards are allowed. Theyre used all the time.

How much stapling do u need to do?

It only needs to be stapled within 12" of a box and every 4.5'...

Do u have wood studs?

Yeah less depth needed. There is just enough gap that it doesn't hold the wire securely.

I'm traveling up a wall from the subpanel and through a top sill plate, going across about 12 truss lower chords, then traveling along the top of about 10 hip truss lower chords, through the top plate and down a wall to the outlet. I have been stapling every other truss and a few on the wall studs it travels down. I'll need about 20 staples.

I kind of figured the metal ones would be fine but was worth asking to make sure!

The main thing u have to watch for is crushing the cable/stapling it too hard. I would be more concerned with that vs. a little slack.
