PM notification??

Ever since I joined, when a Private Message came in, until I read it a stylized racing-flag like envelope would appear just below the Welcome lines at the top right. Now, suddenly, it no longer appears. The number of Your Notifications changes, but that's all. The flag-envelope was a real attention-getter, but the number isn't.
Did I somehow turn off the icon? I looked through my settings, but didn't find anything, and I sure didn't do it on purpose.

Do you want a pop up box when you get an PM ?

Go to User CP, right side select "EDIT OPTIONS" under "seetings & options. There is a box for Private Messaging and you will see the following.

If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.

Click the box and you should get a pop up window when a PM is sent to you.

OK, I found that section and enabled the pop-up, but I'm not sure that's what I was talking about. At the right of the screen, near the top, there are three lines reading:

Welcome, BFBOB
You last visited: Yesterday, 11:00 PM
Your notifications: 2


It used to be that when I had an unread PM, a kind of colorful flag-like icon of an envelope with speed-indicating lines would appear just below these lines of type. Now, the notifications number just increases. (it always is at least 2 because I received 2 friend requests; never replied because I haven't been able to find out exactly what makes a "friend" different, and I am deeply suspicious of all things webbish).

But I did make the change you suggested, and now we'll see. It may take a while since I receive few PM's. Thanks for the help!

I know what mailbox looking thing you are talking about. It may have disappeared with a version update, I can't answer that for sure. The pop up window is just an alternate and if you have a pop up blocker in anti-virus, you may have to make a change to allow them for this site.

I've just got in a habit of checking PMs when I log on to GJ as well as scanning the new posts.
