SK Tools - silver stuff?

Just ordered a socket set on eBay, SK Tools, advertised as new. Excited all week. Showed up with no shrink wrap, loose sockets all disjointed bouncing around in a priority mail box. Started to suspect.

It was a big splurge for me, not exactly cheap. I know tools get dirty anyway after use, blah blah blah, but I paid for new.

Anyway, is it normal to have silver paint like substance inside the sockets and sometimes on the sides?

Feels like I’m nitpicking but they’re supposed to be new. Set me straight please, this is my first brand new made in USA tool set...

The inside of the socket is how they come. The more you use it the more it will wear off. I think it's just some kind of protectant.

It’s a fairly common question in regards to SK sockets here at GJ, evidently the guy who paints the inside of the sockets gets a little wild on occasion.

Seems like the current SK finish on their sockets nowadays.

I had to replace my 19mm deep from my 3/8 set after a buddy trashed the original with an impact. The one I got direct from SK has the same type of interior finish, though not as extreme.

Here's some pics next to the shallow 19mm from the set, as you can see that one has a fine polish.

Excellent, thanks for the help gentlemen!

Good piece of mind to know it’s normal for a new set and a protectant and not some kid of funky eBay seller pulling one over

Looking forward to years of use with this set!

It's free marketing for SK.
That's why they keep doing it.

Tools that last a good long time wasn't enough publicity.

You got a socket made on Monday. Worker was probably still dreaming about the weekend. :lol_hitti

Don't let it worry you.
