All I carry now is my Leatherman skeletool CX, before that I just used some el-cheapo from the flea market. I never invested in a quality pocket knife because of loosing them all the time, mistreating, etc.

I did happen to pick up a knife sharpener yesterday that works really good, Smiths Pocket Pal $10 it has a carbide and ceramic replaceable stones along with a tapered diamond coated rod for serrated blades. It put a really nice edge back on my leatherman.

Leatherman New Wave. Been on me for three years now. God a Gerber some months ago, didn't like it. Bad design.

Swiss Army Knife normally. Bought in Switzerland, too.

Have Kershaw Ken Onion Blur, awesome knife with open assist. Made in USA. $90, though.

Small Leatherman folding knife in car, came free with Leatherman Wave.

Kershaw is a great brand for all types of knives in my opinion.

Kershaw External Toggle but the one I have is semi-serrated and has a black blade. Love it. I have a byrd I carry sometimes if I'm really going to abuse it, but I'm not nice to the Kershaw by any means. I would like a Spyderco Scorpius though.
CRKT, Benchmade, Sog, Kershaw, and Spyderco are usually the brands I look at first when considering a new knife.

+1 on the Leatherman -- I carry the old "Wave" -- It's with me all the time. Travels in my briefcase when going to work, or on my belt when I'm out and about.

Growing up in the 50's and 60's every man I knew carried a pocket knife. In grade school and high school in those days most boys (and some girls) carried a pocket knife -- and it wasn't for personal protection.

Amazing how this country has changed -- now you could go to jail for carrying a pair of scissors or an asprin in your bookbag.

MY everyday carry:

Masters of defense auto:

And my titanium Leatherman charge:

I have 3 leatherman Mutlis, and 4 Gerbers...I used to swear by Gerber...but I got pinched too many times with them. I have lots of pocket knives...but the MOD I seem to grab first every morning. Great knife, holds an edge VERY well.

Leatherman Mini Tool. They discontinued it already and I'll never understand why.

It folds down to about 2.5" to fit my pocket, but it opens up to a full size 6.5" pliers. Nothing they offer today does that.

I have one of those also...handy little tool. we got them issued back in my forest service fire fighting days. +2 on why they discontiuned them?:headscrat

I had a leatherman Juice I used to always carry, the orange one. I lost it about two years ago and whenever I need pliers or a tool I *still* reach for it in my pocket:(
Looking at the micro-tool reminded me of my old juice. How does the micro-tool compare to the juice?

Need to tweak the clip, it is tearing up the lining in my coat.

Not a bad knife, light holds a descent edge, not a fan of the combo blade though, Like the tanto blade.

Case, Fighting Rooster, and Hen & Rooster. Case knives have a lifetime warranty. I just received back a 40 year old knife, my dad gave me as child, that they replaced the cracked handle free under warranty. They also repaired another one I broke the blade on, free of charge, under warranty. This knife was 20 years old. It's hard to beat customer service like this. The service was extremely slow but what other company would do this?

There is a lot of talk of multi-function tools. I am a pocket-knife guy, regular old single blade, straight edge, kept razor-sharp.

The best knives are made in Solingen, Germany.

Gerber ShortCut in my pocket daily, has scissors instead of pliers, but I keep a cheap Smith and Wesson "leatherman" style tool in each car.

I'm planning on adding a cheap, less than $10, large lockback for my tool chest as a "don't care if I break it" working knife. Currently in my box and working "ok" is a steak knife out of a 99 cent store.

I carry an old Old Timer 3 blade Carbon steel blade pocket knife for cutting and a Leatherman Wave on my belt for everything else. The plan is to pick up a Buck or Kershaw or CRKT folder with a clip at some point to use all the time because after surviving so many years of me my Old Timer is a bit worn.

I like it for cutting open boxes, cutting plastic shrinkwrap, nylon strapping, odds and ends. There's always something useful about it.

Length too long? Probably not by much, right?

Wait, you gonna tell me that I can carry that in the People's Republic of California, but you can't in the Great State of Kansas?!? :shocking:

City law, "auto" knives are illegal

I've often wondered if I took the spring out if that would make it legal.

I just carry one of two flea market special knives. They have served me well enough, and I don't worry about losing them (which I've done before).

I have a Leatherman Wave in my truck glove box, but my go to knives are my three electricians knives (2 Camillus and 1 Klein): two in my toolbox and one in the console of the truck. I couldn't do without them.

I've thought about modifying a knife to fit local laws. Then I've thought about discussing it with a 'friendly' officer of the law and decided that I was better off with one where I can provide numerous citations that it is in line with the (pointless) regulations.

Luckily Bolster's right, the UKPK is a great little knife

Gerber Mini Covert. It's a slightly smaller version of a real combat knife, hence the spear point and balanced symmetry of the knife. I currently have it disassembled for cleaning and sharpening. It's only my second time sharpening a knife on a stone, so we'll see how that goes.
