Gerber Mini Covert. It's a slightly smaller version of a real combat knife, hence the spear point and balanced symmetry of the knife. I currently have it disassembled for cleaning and sharpening. It's only my second time sharpening a knife on a stone, so we'll see how that goes.

I was carrying mine today too! I have the mini covert, the little larger covert & the full size applegate, The only thing I dont like about the mini is that its made in taiwan opposed to the two larger versions being made in USA.

Got this bad boy for 6$ at a swap meet a couple years ago. Don't carry unless im camping or hiking because its big enough to give me a hassle. Cheap? yeah, but it cuts and if I lose it I'll brush it off as a loss. I'd like to get something smaller and more manageable to carry on a regular basis though.

mine are all 'rotatable'.. checking the drawer I have 6 Gerbers, 5 Bucks, 4 Case, 4 Vitronix but my favorite is a 25 year old Puma Seargent Lockback. That knife holds an edge better than all the rest. Came with a checkered ABS handle that felt so good in your hand.... worn nearly completely smooth now... it cost me nearly a weeks wages back in 1982.

Use leatherman,wenger,victorinox,kershaw as every day carries.Keep a husky utility handy if work might mar a good blade.multi blades are real useful.The leatherman saves many a trip to the tool box,you gotta appreciate a nice sharp knife

In addition to the knife shown below I have a Case pocket knife, a small Gerber Paraframe and a Leatherman H502. Lately I've been carrying this Camillus (USA) pocket knife that came with a lot of tools I bought. The blade is marked Xcelite, perhaps it was a promotion. The knife was quite dirty and rusty but it cleaned up well. Solid construction. Comfortable feel.

I worked at Home Depot for 2.5 years, and always carried a lockback box cutter. Was against safety regulations (Automatic retracting nibble cutter only), but screw that, I wanted a good knife.

When Home Depot changed their supplier to one with an inferior style, went to Harbor Freight and found the same thing, only cheaper.



I love this thing. I keep it in my left pocket at all times, and the clip makes it easy to grab. Never have to worry about sharpening it either, as I can just change the blade.

I always get the black ones. The only thing the Home Depot ones had over the Pittsburgs was that the HD style had ribbing on the body, and Pittsburg does not.

Yeah, I don't like the fact that it gets dirt and grit inside the bushings which reduces the smoothness of the opening, so I have to clean it every few months. That and the black paint chipping off the blade. Other than that I love that knife.

Same here. I got myself one of their Husky brand ones and carry that in my apron. The one manager likes to call that me "illegal" knife But for anything the Husky won't cut, I get out my aforementioned Mini Covert.

Well then byGod take advantage. It is our responsibility to protect our right for tools (tools meaning equipment that allows us to do the job at hand, be it auto repair or self protection or surgery, and all the areas in between).

If you can get permits for these things and be legal, spend the saturday, or the 7 bucks to do so!

Not sure what everyone else means when they say "swiss army knife" but mine was given to me by a guy I hung out with in Switzerland on business. He said Victorinox isn't the "real" thing. He gave me one that he was issued, he said he'd just tell them he lost it and would get another... (they'll never fight anyhow!)

Light, aluminum knurl handle, the only thing that would be nice is a locking blade, but in reality, using it for heavy work needing a lock is the wrong use of a pocketknife.

I had a Gerber multitool, the main one they made in '98 or so. I had that for the longest time till my car was broken into and it was stolen along with other things. That reminds me, I need to replace it. I loved that thing and I still think it is in the car sometimes.

Procurement of the Offiziersmesser (the issue knife for the Swiss army) was split, by law, 50:50 between Victorinox and Wenger in 1908, but Victorinox bought Wenger in 2005, so from February 2008 became the sole supplier of the current issue knife.

Bought a Kissing Crane a while back, then discovered it was made in China. Its actually a very nice knife, a real surprise considering what they usually produce.

Spyderco Byrd Wings (Has Serrated and Plain Edge Blades)
Boker Hyper
Frosts Mora 840MG Fixed Blade
The grand total for all 5 was under $100 from eBay, and they cover about any use I might need a knife for. Strangely, my "better" Benchmades, Spydercos, etc get less hard use as time goes by, and I sold a bunch of them off. I love a good American made knife, with quality (stainless or non) steel, but find that a little maintenance can get a decent AUS6/8, 8cr13Mov, or 440C as sharp as I need it, and keep it that way.

yep, what he says. Mine came from a soldier in uniform (a family member via my former wife) and was made by Victorinox.
I had it from him in 1992.
He reported it as lost and was issued with another one.
I reported the vest I traded as lost, and was issued with another one
so only our governments lost out (and we pay taxes etc etc)

I've got well over a hundred knives, the bulk being Spyderco but also consisting of Emerson, Al Mar, Victorinox, Buck, Randall, and a half a dozen or so other brands. With exceptions (I don't carry the Randalls!) I'll go to the machinist's chest I keep them in and pick out something that fits my "mood" that day.

Lately it's been my CPMS30V Spyderco Paramilitary, shown here with my Bushmaster AR-15. I took the photo, I'm kinda happy with how it came out

I carry an old Old Timer 3 blade Carbon steel blade pocket knife ...

Same here. My first Schrade Old Timer was found under the seat of my first car, a '72 VW Bug, acquired in 1978. It was well used when the previous owner lost it. Had been sharpened many times. Carbon steel blades were black with age. I carried it for at least 15 years, proud to have a NY-made product (Ellenville, NY, not far from my home town) before I finally lost it. Bought another of the same model. When Schrade announced they were going out of business a few years ago, I went to Sears and bought the last three they had in stock. Had to give up one to TSA at the airport when I forgot to leave it home, but still have the other three. I've lost two in the last 30 years, so with three more, I figure I'm good until 2055!

BTW, current Schrade knives are Schrade in name only. Another company bought the name and designs and makes them in China now. I won't buy another one in 2056.

I'm as big a chump for knives as I am for tools. Don't know if I've got as many as Zrexxer, but it's close. For everyday carry, a Wenger Swiss Army Commander, Spyderco Delica w/full serration and a Gerber 600 multi-tool with bit set. Like my American Express card, I don't leave home without them.

I have two that I trade off carrying. One is a BUCK single locking blade. It has been a great knife but needs to be sharpened. Unfortunately I have never been able to sharpen them worth a damn. So that explains my other knife. The other knife I have is a Sheffield I bought at O'Reilly's. It is one of the knives that you replace the razor blade in. Similar to the one posted by Dust on post 53. I will get pics later after I get the battery charged. I wish I would have spent time with my Uncle who sharpened his knives. He could put an edge on a blade like no other. He was an outdoorsman though.

X2 on this knife..picked one up last night and i am quite surprised at the quality. although it does piss me off that it seriously has WARNING BLADE IS EXTREMELY SHARP on it like I was going to buy a knife just so i could sharpen something

I bought this Puma in 1990 while in Germany, and the Leathermans were accumulated recently, but I used to have an original Leatherman that was stolen from 1989.

I have a Delica too, but it's the black FRN handled one with the regular non- hollow ground blade. I've had it in my pocket every day for the last 5 or 6 years. It doubles as a bottle opener and I can open a beer faster than anyone I've met. Although the tip of the handle is now all chewed up. The blade is also cracked all the way through on the top/back of the thumb hole. Back of the blade is sanded smooth, there are grind marks on the blade, the etched spider is loooong gone... What a useful tool!
I'm thinking it's finally time for a new one and the SS handled, hollow ground blade one that I believe you have is the one I'm looking at. I figure the metal handle will make it stiffer and won't wear on bottle caps. Plus I can drill/mill/engrave the handle however I want.
