I have a pole barn in Hartwell, GA, Northeast Atlanta area that is approx 36' x 78'. The current configuration is a roof and only 1 side wall (that I plan to replace). I want to enclose the structure and make it more weather-tight and comfortable. The current floor is rock and I plan to concrete and add overhead doors and a man door. I will make certain that the floor is setup so I can add a lift at a later date. Please give me a recommendation on the optimum type of exterior wall system. I plan to insulate and do not want to have a moist and sweaty structure as I will have cars and boats stored and want the environment as comfortable as reasonably possible without breaking the bank. Thanks

If you went with vertical rough sawn 1x? you get get most any length and run them long to the bottom of the roof decking. Put purlins at 2' or 3' OC horizontally for nailers. To make it even more weather tight wrap the sides with Tyvek before putting up your siding. You could then have the classic barn look. YMMV.

Thanks! Is Hardi plank a material that many use for exterior wall? Is it better to use purlins or frame the wall? I do not want to over build if it is not necessary.

My plan is to insulate the walls and sheet rock over time.

I appreciate the recommendation.

Use girts horizontally between your posts. Using the same size as your posts, and installing with the long side flat, not only frames both sides of the wall, but increases structural strength.
