The collection of things John Deere green has finally outgrown all available space, so I'm hoping to break ground within a few weeks on a new 30x36 post-frame building. Aside from several 2" conduits stubbed through the slab, I'm leaving the electrical portion out of the initial build and planning to DIY once construction is complete. I've done my share of home electrical projects in the past, but want to make sure I get this one right.
I think I'd like 60A of usable service out there (table saw, large air compressor, stick welder, general lighting, garage door openers) but am not opposed to a little more if it can be done affordably. The wire run will be somewhere between 125-150 feet total: About 15 feet in my unfinished basement from the 200A main panel (point A), then another 20-30 feet in my attached garage/attic space, go up the wall in to the garage attic (point B), around to the corner and back down the wall (point C) where it will exit and then go underground for the remaining 80' or so before entering the barn.
I've read a few posts around here and other forums about using MHF, so that's my plan unless I find a reason not to. At 150' it looks like I could do up to a 70A breaker at the main panel with 2-2-2-4 MHF/Quad-**** ($1.62/ft @ Home Depot).
So, is this the most affordable route to do this and be code-compliant? Does the MHF need to be ran in conduit inside the basement/garage space?
