I bought that kit 3-4 years ago, only refurb'd. My wife uses the drill around the house when she needs to hang a picture or whatever. I've beat the snot out of the impact driver daily since I got it, no complaints here.

I ordered the same combo when it was a lightning deal back in June. I charged the batteries when I got it, and I haven't had to recharge them yet. Which is great when you consider I have had a basement remodel going on the last 3 months so I was using it fairly often.

I got this drill refurbed off ebay in oct 2011 ago along with a 2nd battery, charger & bag directly from Porter Cable it was 45 bucks , at the time the battery itself was that price ! I didnt have high hopes when I purchased it but after I got it I wish that I had purchased a few of them because it works pretty good, no issues thus far. If the deal comes back I would jump on it again. This one from amazon would have been a good score also wish I had seen it.

How do find these "lightning deals"? Is it something you sign up for or just stumble on them.....

I have been told that Li-Ion batteries prefer frequent short charges and do not last as long if deeply discharged. It is basically opposite to the old Ni-Cad's. Not sure how true that is however.

A Li-On cell has no memory, so it doesn't matter when you charge it. Run that sucker flat if you want, the PCB in the battery pack will not let you discharge it below a certain voltage, which is usually 2.75VDC per individual cell. If you're storing a Li-On pack for a long period of time, it's best to store it in the middle of its cycle, i.e. don't store a flat pack, or a freshly charged pack.
