Hello Everyone.

I've proudly inherited my late Dad's Porter Cable K-89 Circular Saw! It is a thing of beauty and works wonderfully. It just feels like a tool should feel. Heavy, by today's standards, but so well balanced. I'm 56 years old and I have fond memories of my Dad using this saw all my life, right up to the end when he died a few years ago at age 93.

It's interesting the old manual that was in the metal box with it is actually for the K-88. Like they didn't yet get around to printing an update for the K-89.

The instructions say to add grease to "Use a good grade of light grease, filling both grease cups under ordinary use about once a week. These two cups lubricate all the ball bearings and gears. Too much grease will make bearings run hot and will force grease out of bearing seals on work and commutator."

So I've identified the one grease cup adjacent to the blade in the rear of the saw. Do I just pack that full of grease and screw it all the way in? Or do I screw part way in now, and more later as I use it? (I've read this about some grease cup fittings, but that may be a different type). I don't want to over grease it.

And the 2nd one I think is just a small plug screw at the end of the motor housing. I read about this in James Huston's blog. Do I just unscrew it and pack some grease in there?

James, are you out there?! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Oh, and as a side note, I also have a Syracuse Model 4-A. Beautiful little saw. I'll have more questions on this one another time.

Thank you,
Marc
