Lost 40 ft on a pole barn last week in a tornado or straight line wind, they haven't determined which yet. Looking at rebuilding but not on the end of the building that it was knocked off of, we'll just repair that building as it was storage anyways. Still waiting to hear back on insurance but what I would like to do is put an addition on to a 40x80 that I have at the farm, basically putting 30x40 on the West end as proper heated shop. The existing 40x80 can be used for parts storage vehicles farm equipment Etc. I will have a couple of doors to get into it, man doors so it's easy to get parts but I won't have to have much storage in the new part as everything can stay in the old part. Going to do a 20x14 roll up door, insulated figuring rock wool on the walls and ceiling. Going to insulate the slab with foam. I would like to do a heated slab but I don't think that's going to be in the budget. Has anybody ever done an insulated slab and then head infrared propane heat in the ceiling? Also probably will have forced air in the shop from a corn burner. I'm wondering once the slab gets warm will it stay fairly warm? This is going to be in Michigan, main things will be farm repair and some automotive. I would like to go bigger but this is about the size the budget will allow. Also considered building a freestanding 40x50 but realistically I don't think I'm going to have the budget for it and by attaching it on to the 40x80 that I already have I've got tons of storage then where is the freestanding shop would have to have a fair amount of stuff stored in it to keep having to go back and forth between two buildings. Looking for a thoughts ideas and opinions. Thanks.
