Pouring concrete in PHOENIX summer?

Almost have my permits approved. But I understand it is not ideal to pour in high heat. 31x26x6” deep slab. To pour in the summer heat or wait until it cools off late October?

There are challenges to placing concrete in high temps. Presumably you plan to hire a finishing crew? They will likely know how to deal with local weather conditions probably by placing very early to avoid the worst of the heat.

Are you doing the pour yourself? Most contractors tell the mix plant what they want for the job/present conditions.

I'd certainly ask the mix plant for their recommendation for cement ratio/water/retarders if I were organizing this myself

If you end up doing this in the summer AZ heat, I'd start as early as possible and have lots of drinking water on hand

It always amazes me to see a finishing crew working in the hot AZ Phoenix summer sun. I'd make sure you had eneough people plus maybe a little more

Definitely not doing this myself! And to add on there will be 10’ block walls on top of this. The heat probably affects that also. As well as the crew placing both.

Was in and out of the Phoenix area during a couple of summers, years back. The concrete trucks started rolling just after midnight and were off the road by about 8 am on the projects I went by.

Definitely not worth risking doing in the summer months here. Pushing off ground breaking till November. I’m sure the brick layers will appreciate it too and do a better job.

There is only 1 guarantee when it comes to concrete !

its going to crack !

play the weather by ear late sept/ October are good, just start early!
Id pour the footings and build the block walls then pour the slab to the wall w/ an expansion joint

In Havasu they typically pour at night
masons / framers etc start work at daybreak
