Get a 40 position main breaker panel (like the Square D QO140M200C) and a main lug conversion kit (Square D QOL225). Since you can get the main breaker panel at a deep discount at places like Home Depot (I paid $191 for mine; they're now up to $227) you'll come out way ahead of buying a main lug panel (QO140L200G - list price $439). To give you an idea of the discount you get at the home center, that $227 main breaker panel lists for $747.I'm sure this has been done before -- I need two 100A power panels, without the main breaker- so I guess you don;t call em load center panels. I don't believe anyone makes a 40ckt 100 amp panel, in those situations we use a 200 amp panel for the amount of breakers it will hold.

Yup. You said "without main breaker".Thanks for the response - Ok - so the 200 A panel will give me 40 ckts, but what is the purpose of the main lug conversion kit? To eliminate the main 200A brkr?
