Bought Snap On ratchet from this seller. He put ratchet in a small flat rate box but did not use any packing tape, instead relying on the tabs to keep packaging closed. When I received the box, one end had obviously been opened and the $100 ratchet was gone. Seller took no responsibility for his negligence. Stay away from this seller.

Good luck with that. How can you PROVE to usps contents were missing when the box arrived? BTDT. USPS is strictly buyer - or seller - or anyone -- beware. Happened to me 4 times, twice as buyer, twice as seller. USPS denied all, paid nothing.

Your only realistic hope is from the seller. At least he already KNOWS he didn't add any padding.

Certainly is not easy but I have had several claims paid.. seems if they are under $50 they get processed fairly easily. Just upload good photos of the damaged box and note that contents were missing. It's worth a try to recoup some of the loss.

But yes, the seller should have packaged it much better and should have stepped up and covered the loss/dealt with USPS themselves.

Careless people shipping inconsiderately. I bought some 320 mm brake rotors for a Yamaha motorcycle, the box came cross-country in a narrow flat rate box, no padding, no immobilization whatsoever, and the freely-moving rotors beat the box open. Thankfully, someone in the USPS system caught it before the pieces were lost, and bagged the box/contents, re-labelled it and sent it on its way.

Besides the padding, also not using extra tape sealing the box is stupid. Those sticky tabs built into the box are not strong enough. Heck even If I am mailing something light, I stick at least a couple extra strips of tape across the flaps.

There's no excuse not to have packing materials on hand. We all order stuff and have tons of boxes and materials. I recycle most of it since I don't sell much stuff on ebay, but I do keep some on hand in the basement just in case I sell something.
