Predator generator 8500 generator tripping outlet when fridge is connected.

I have a 8500 predator generator that keeps getting it's outlet triped when I connect my fridge. The fridge is 115vx5.0 amps= 575 watts. But the weird thing is that it can handle a 1000w grill. Should I just connect the fridge into the 240 plug? What do you guys suggest? Or maybe I have a bad generator..

You need to read the reviews on the Predator inverters - lots of the 3500s showing up at the track. Killer deal for $700 and quiet as all get out. Only issue I've seen with the big 6500s is that they are loud as hell, louder than our Champion 6500 which is not so quiet. Lots of HF gennys at the races, don't hear anyone complaining about the operation. The people with real deep pockets run Hondas. Buy the extended warranty and easy exchange.

As above, I'd suspect an issue with the fridge. Our "cheap" Champion 6500 was only $750, only thing that trips it off is a leg overload. If you take a trailer with a 50A box and use a pigtail to "dumb" it down to a 30A RV plug, then adapt that to a GFCI circuit - it'll trip the GFCI instantly. Won't trip the genny.

My feeling is the GFCI 120V outlet is sensing a ground fault from the frig and is why it's tripping. If you have an adapter to take 120V from one leg of the 240V outlet that should work since the 240V outlet is not GFCI protected.

Edit: I didn't notice the 120V outlet below the 240V outlet. Have you tried that 120V outlet?

you need to talk to few people the return rate on predator generators is extremely high. Sometimes I think those reviews are too good to be true.......

The only thing is they are cheap. But I do not buy a generator to work on it and want it work when needed.

Really going to make your day when I tell you this: I own a honda eu2000i, I can run my ge side by side w/no issues what so ever, obviously when the compressor kicks in is when the fridge draws the most amperage, I would test your fridge with an ohm meter to see how much its drawing at compressor start up, IMHO.

This is a good tip.

Looks like the gen 120v outlets are GFCI.

Perhaps the fridge has a ground fault.

Does the generator have "test" and "reset" GFCI buttons or just a single reset button for both GFCI and overcurrent functions?

Broken defrost bulb is a common culprit.

Plug the fridge into a GFCI outlet and report back.

An ohm meter is for measuring resistance and is the wrong tool for measuring amperage. It will not tell you how much amperage the fridge or anything else is using. Need an amp clamp meter for doing so.

So what happened is that I had a bad generator. I returned it and I got a different one with a different serial #. The new one works pretty good. I'm using about .4 of a gallon an hour.

The response is "so what, I got a warranty and I didn't spend $3799". Nobody cares. If one blows up - piss on it, go get another one. This is racing after all - blow that motor, toss it over the back fence and grab another is kinda how we roll.

Actually I did ask around and only one person said they had to do a return/exchange. I have seen the Predator 3400 Inverters in action - very quiet and seem to be doing the work. We're debating getting a 3400 and budgeting power vs shitting a money brick and EU7000i.
