Hi,

Does anybody know anything about "Pro Grade" hand tools. I don't think I would buy any but I see them now in Fleet Farm and Runnings. I think they are made in China or Tiwan but every time I walk by them at Fleet Farm I wonder if anybody uses them. They have wrenches/sockets/ratchets. They do have pretty nice chrome. They also sell Allen brand at Fleet Farm which costs about double but is made in the USA. At least you still have a choice.

I think I saw them in the store, they would be great for placing on top of papers on your desk that you didn't want blowing away if the window was open or the swing of the door.

I don't get close enough to **** like that to break them in the first place. "Pro Grade" is another name like "Allied" or Ohio Forge" - they just scream Chinese made mickey mouse junk.

They are made in Taiwan and seem to be reasonably made and priced. For Merk who loves his Gearwrench these sockets are just as pretty if not out of the same factory.

BTW I don't have any yet mostly because I haven't had to have a tool on a Sunday but I would buy them over Gearwrench.

Are you in MN?? Runnings and Fleet Farm, sounds like west central. I have looked at them at runnings, the chrome looks nice, almost too nice.

Yeah I live in MN but was in SD this past weekend pheasant hunting and saw them at Runnings.

The thing that got me is they look to be possibly better quality then the Allen stuff. Wonder why the Allen stuff isn't as nice. I'm guessing there are a lot of folks that would buy the Pro Grade stuff as it is a lot cheaper and looks to be better quality and nice chrome. I know most folks on GJ are all about made in the USA but seeing some of these tools from Taiwan makes you think twice. I just compared a Wright Cougar brand socket set which is made in the USA and is Wright's cheaper line but it is nowhere near as nice in my opinion as the Toptul stuff from Taiwan. Don't get me wrong I would much rather buy stuff made in the USA. I would like to think that made in the USA always means the best quality but I'm not so sure anymore. I'm more nervous about the **** we are buying from China that we drink and eat from as who knows what chemicals the stuff is made from.

I know this is an old post but When I was looking into Pro-Grade tools I can across this post so I figured I would add what I found out.

  • Pro-Grade is made by the same company that makes Channel Lock tools. (Allied International).
  • Most of their tools are made in Taiwan.
  • I love American Made things but I also Love the Channel Lock Brand so if these tools are anything like my Channel Lock Tools You should be good for life (especially because they are backed by a Lifetime Warranty).

I hope this helps.
