Protecting Epoxy floor

Because of the timeline I'm under, I'm going to have to do the floor in the garage before I can finish mudding and painting the walls and ceiling. I was hoping to have the garage all done before the movers hauled my stuff, but my storage contract is up soon.

I need to put something on the floor that will keep paint/mudd off and also hold up to walking on it, rolling toolboxes, etc.

I know the standard thin plastic drop cloth isn't going to cut it. Those things shred just from using a stepladder.

What's the best thing to use? I can get a roll 10ftx100ft 8mil plastic for $45, though that seems a bit expensive.

There is the brown paper that I have used before, though it's only 3ft wide. Would take a while to cover the whole floor!

Get some cardboard from a local appliance store before it goes into the compactor....

Canvas dropcloths, just like the union painters use. Use 'em for the rest of your life.

Get as many boxes as you can find and just tape them together at the seams to cover the floor. that is going to be the best solution and the cheapest.

I just need something temporary and fairly cheap. I'm sure it's going to cost more than $40 to cover my garage with that!

Thats what we did with a fresh harwood floor when having to work on and around it. No damage at all.

Hit up a few liquor stores and grocery stores after they have stocked the shelves. They will often let you have the boxes if you ask them.

I would hit the appliance, TV and bedding stores to score the larger boxes that would cover larger areas. Craigslist often has listings for moving boxes, etc that could then be recycled...check the free or items wanted sections. Good luck.

Good idea to protect the floors in teh house as well. I was planning on putting cardboard around the door jams, didn't really think of the floors.

Movers seem to destroy damn near everything... "Ooops... my bad"
