Proto has carried the 1/4 & 3/8 Integrated Socket Set J47122S for many years, even crossing over into their Blackhawk line. This is the set that has a 3/8 ratchet and a 3/8-to- 1/4 reducer to drive the smaller sockets.
What would be the advantage with this set?
My first thought, this negates the advantage of 1/4 drive (lower profile and compact head ratchet)

It's a tradeoff set. Fewer tools to carry around in exchange for possibly worse access to fasteners because of the bulkier ratchet and the longer 3/8 to 1/4 adapter, when driving the smaller socket sizes. And the manufacturer might like selling a set like that because they can sell what a customer might perceive as a more complete set for a lower price.

This was Proto's description for this set of an earlier vintage:

The PROTO J47122S is a 22-piece SAE socket set built around a 3/8-inch drive and covering a size range from 3/16 inch to 1 inch. All sockets are 6-point, which delivers better torque transfer and reduces the risk of rounding fastener corners under load. The set ships in a metal case that keeps sockets organized and protected on a job site or in a service van. It is suited for HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and general trade professionals who need a compact, full-range SAE socket assortment for equipment service, panel work, and mechanical assembly tasks.

The J47122S covers residential and light commercial service applications where SAE fasteners are standard. The set includes both 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch drive sockets, a 1/4-inch socket driver, a 3/8-inch female to 1/4-inch male adapter, and two extensions for reaching recessed fasteners. This makes it a practical choice for technicians working inside equipment cabinets, electrical enclosures, and mechanical rooms where access is limited and multiple drive sizes are needed in a single kit.
