A few people on another site wanted to see pics of my Proto tool boards, so I thought I'd post them here also.

The first one is 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive tools and sockets

This is my wrench board. Just finished the long pattern wrenches on the bottom. Still looking to replace some of the ones across the top with the older, shorter versions that are correct for this board.

VERY cool! One day, when I have the extra moolah, I'd love to get some old tool boards and fill them with tools like that. Thanks for sharing those.

Nice boards man. How long have you been trying to fill the boards?

Very nice. In a commercial duty shop I would prefer this layout rather than more tool boxes.

Looks like only a few pieces are still missing now.

Very nice board collection!

Now you've given me an excuse to show mine off too. They aren't all Proto - some are "Challenger - by Proto" (I recall this was a lower price Proto offering) and "Duro Chrome" boards. Since I recently got a new tool box, I keep most of my tools in there. These boards collect all the leftover stuff, but they have a lot of sentimental value and I just have to have them on display.

Those are awesome. I always thought they were used in a shop for the mechanics....now I see those are retail boards.

I got to thinking...nowadays, a person who was handy with a graphics program could draw up a reproduction of a tool board, take it to Fast Signs or some other similar graphics shop, and they could print it out on a big sheet of vinyl. Stick it to a piece of Masonite, get some hooks and there you go.

hey that's not a bad idea

But I'm sure most of the appeal is having everything original

I thought about the same thing except run the design through the Shop Bot computer and router things out.

You wouldn't necessarily have to copy an old board, either - just make up a pattern that matches the tools you have, and slap a logo on the top. :)

The 1/4 and 3/8 board, and the impact socket board I've had for a couple of years. The 2 Proto LA boards about a year. I still have 5 or 6 that I haven't started yet, although those are in pretty rough shape.

If I could find a decent picture of the hammer and puller boards that I need for my set, I'd ask that Joeyxdubs (?) guy on here with the vinyl cutter to shoot me a price on doing just that.

Hey now, thats cheating:bounce:

The fun part for me is the thrill of the hunt. I haven't been as obsessed as I was, now I just keep my eye open and pick up a piece here and there as I run across them. Stay on the hunt Bull, those boards will cross your path eventually. It took me forever to find a 1210L 5/16 wrench, I actually gave up actively looking for one, 2 weeks ago I stumbled upon one on Ebay mixed in with a bunch of other wrenches. Ya never know when they'll turn up.

It is cheating, and I would only do it if desperate...which is sort of how I feel now. I mean, when you are searching eBay several times per day and then Craigslist several times per day, hoping to find two specific display boards, it feels a bit...too much! Especially since with the demise of Craiglook, national CL searches absolutely **** to sort through.

You are right though; I must persevere.

Your progress on those Protos is awesome. Did you ever see pics of the Proto boards I picked up? If not, I will get some.

I saw that thread, and I'm extremely jealous:lol_hitti I like the striped tool outlines on those boards, I've never seen any like that.

Also, if your luck is anything like mine, as soon as you have a board made, you'll find the ones your looking for.:bounce:
