Puma 6060V Air Compressor wiring options.

My new compressor should be in next week and I am trying to get my wiring options together. I have posted some pics to give you an idea about what I am thinking.

My first option is to install the compressor in the small closet in my garage. The closet currently has a tankless hot water heater installed in the closet with a 30amp disconnect that is wired with 10 gauge wire. Is there anyway that I can use this connection to wire in my compressor. The hot water heater is used to heat the water in an apartment that is located over my garage. No one lives in the garage and it would be very unlikely that I would ever use both at the same time.

The 2nd option is to use an existing 240 outlet with a 50am breaker. I assume that I will need to just change the breaker to a 30amp and install a disconnect where the outlet is if I want to hard wire it rather than using a plug.

There is really no way to run additional wire into the closet so I can only use this option if I can use the existing connection in some way.

Does the motor on the compressor have integral thermal overload protection? Is there a reset button on it?

Yes. If you disconnect the water heater you could possibly connect your air compressor in here. Not both at the same time though.

That would work. If your air compressor is within sight of the panel there is no reason for another disconnect, unless you want one.

I'd probably wire a disconnect at the socket location and use a whip with #10 from the disconnect to the compressor and change out the breaker to a 30A.

I think that this is probably what I will do.

Does anyone make a switch that I could use to switch between two appliances? For example, have the ability to switch the water heater on or the air compressor on or both off.
